Hotel search: more price transparency with trivago
The international travel portal trivago.com has launched a new feature: users of the hotel search can now compare the exact rate descriptions for hotel bookings on trivago. This allows the user to see immediately on what
terms he books his stay. In addition to the prices of different booking partners travellers can check the exact rate description for a hotel room on the search result page of trivago, and not only at the partner's site. The rate description states, whether breakfast is included, the booking can be cancelled short-term and whether a credit card is required. This information is unique in the area of meta search for hotels.
The following link shows an example of a price comparison of the Riverside Hotel in Prague on trivago:

At first glance a standard double room costs the same with all providers. But ehotel is the only provider who offers the room with breakfast included and thus has the best offer.
trivago’s hotel finder compares the prices of online booking partners like expedia, booking.com or ebookers for 285,000 hotels worldwide and always finds the best rates available. A variety of selection criteria allows the user to reduce the search results, for example by hotel category, the number of stars, or by room facilities. In addition visitors to trivago.com can find a hotel within a radius of 20 kilometers from the selected city, using the radius search function on the site. trivago's active social networking community provides about 165,000 hotel reviews, 1.7 million photos and information on 58,000 tourist attractions which allow the user to find the ideal accommodation for their needs.
How to book your hotel at the best price
trivago.com hotel price comparison site can save 32 percent on average
Most people in Germany do not know how to find the cheapest rates for
their accommodation when travelling. This finding is the result of a recent
survey by the international market research institute Innofact AG in
association with the pan-European travel portal trivago.com.
Düsseldorf, 9 May 2008. The survey*, which was completed in February 2008,
found that 75 percent of travelers do not know about online meta search sites.
These enable them to search for and often book the best hotel prices available at the
time. 60 percent believe that online travel agents always provide the best rates for
hotels. 46 percent of the survey’s respondents believe that they often pay too much
for their accommodation.
The results of this survey point to consumers’ confusion when it comes to booking
and planning holidays on the internet. Due to the rapidly growing online travel
market consumers are in need of internet services which help to sort through the
huge variety of offers. 50 percent of the survey’s informants stated that they do
internet research about their holiday destination and 20 percent book their stay
online.
